Margo McKenzie, ATT – Head of Advisory Services
Margo has 22 years’ experience gained within HMRC dealing with all aspects of personal tax including taxation issues in relation to partners/directors and sole traders. Margo is a fellow of the Association of Taxation Technicians and manages our tax and VAT advisory group.

Katherine Ford, CTA, FCCA – Tax Advisory Manager
Katherine gained experience in a`Big 4’ accountancy firm as an Assistant Manager in the private client sector. Katherine has applied that practical experience in providing advice in all areas of direct tax and stamp duties and has a particular interest in professional partnerships, residency issues and technical CGT issues. At Abbey Tax, Katherine manages the tax helpline on a day-to-day basis and supports the wider team on consulting work.

Brian Harrap – Tax Advisor
Brian has experience of working in both HMRC and private practice. After leaving HMRC he worked as a Tax Manager in practice dealing with a wide-ranging portfolio of clients. Brian provides a comprehensive range of tax advice but specialises in the construction industry and IR35 issues.

Sue Basson, ATT – Tax Advisor
Sue started her tax career in industry, initially working for several multi-national companies. Since then she has worked for both ‘Big 4’ and mid-tier firms in corporate tax. More recently she has worked as a Tax Manager involved in tax planning and reconstruction work for clients.

Helen Wootton-Jones – Tax Advisor
Helen has gained impressive depth of experience having worked in tax for over 27 years. 18 of this was as a personal tax/employer compliance manager, most of which was with three of the world’s largest accountancy practices. Helen utilises that experience in providing advice on a broad range of taxation issues.

Andrew Marston – Tax Advisor
Andrew has 26 years’ experience gained with HMRC. He has an excellent knowledge of all heads of tax, and specialises in PAYE investigations, penalties and general investigation gained from his decade of experience as an employer compliance officer. Andrew also worked on HMRC’s IR35 advice line dealing with all aspects of personal service companies and has a good working knowledge of debt management proceedings.

Kathy Bridges – Tax Advisor
Kathy has 24 years’ experience gained with HMRC. She has a good all round working knowledge of debt management proceedings, she has conducted Working Family/Disabled Persons Tax Credit Compliance checks and has spent 11 years specialising in Self-Assessment Compliance checks –undertaking Full and Aspect S9A/S12AC Enquiries into sole trader and partnership tax Returns.

Jenny Fisher – Tax Advisor
Jenny has many years of experience gained with HMRC. Between 1995 and 2016 she worked in various compliance roles initially as a caseworker and for the last nine years as a team manager, with her most recent role being the manager of a cross-tax team. She has knowledge of employment taxes and the personal tax of sole traders and partnerships.

Caren Davis, ATT, STEP – Tax Advisor
Caren is a former lecturer for the Association of Accounting Technicians, having worked for various Colleges and Universities and private business colleges. Caren currently lectures for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants delivering the Advanced Taxation Unit. Caren spent a number of years working in the tax department of a small firm of chartered accountants as a Tax Senior and has subsequently worked on consultancy and advice lines advising on a wide range of tax issues for various Fee Protection Insurance providers.

Sally Galbraith, CTA – VAT Advisory Manager
Sally joined Abbey Tax in 2014, preceded by 14 years with a ‘Big 4’. Here, Sally started in commercial audit where she qualified as a CA followed by 10 years in VAT providing both advisory and assurance services. Sally worked on a broad range of clients, but in particular manufacturing, auction, retail and multinationals with complex cross-border supply chains requiring liaison with overseas teams. At Abbey Tax, Sally manages the VAT helpline on a day-to-day basis and supports the wider team on consulting and claims work. Sally is also a member of the VAT Practitioners Group.

Jonathan Laing – VAT Advisor
Jonathan joined Abbey Tax in 2012 having worked for HMRC for 21 years where he spent several years as a VAT Visiting Officer dealing with businesses of all sizes and covering a range of complexities. More recently, Jonathan specialised in the investigation of businesses involved with carousel fraud (MTIC); with 10 years of experience in this field he took the project leader role in the Netherlands and Germany to disrupt MTIC activity impacting the UK economy. At Abbey Tax, Jonathan provides helpline advice, co-ordinates the initial assessment of VAT fee protection claims and supports the wider team on consulting and claims work.

Terry Hoskin – VAT Advisor
Terry joined Abbey Tax in 2014 with 25 years’ experience working for HMRC, covering repayment return verifications, processing of DIY Housebuilder Scheme claims and checking Local Authority “Section 33” claims. Terry has extensive knowledge in debt management procedures, penalty regimes, as well as a thorough understanding of VAT regulations, such as the construction industry, land and property transactions, partial exemption and the EC Single Market. At Abbey Tax, Terry provides helpline advice and supports the wider team on consulting and claims work.

Natalie Miles – VAT Advisor
Natalie joined Abbey Tax in 2015 after 12 years of service with HMRC, prior to which she worked with a multinational company assisting with the compilation of management accounts. Natalie has a broad knowledge base on VAT-related topics, including land and property transactions, construction industry, international services and the place of supply rules, education, and health & welfare sectors. At Abbey Tax, Natalie provides helpline advice and supports the wider team on consulting and claims work.

Carol Norfolk – VAT Advisor
Having qualified with a big 4 firm, Carol chose a career in public sector bodies, ranging from local authorities and schools to 22 years in Higher Education. She has dealt with every aspect of accounts preparation, with the exception of payroll, but has specialised in the provision of tax advice, largely VAT and import duties and reliefs. Before joining Abbey Tax Carol was mostly concerned with VAT on education, charity reliefs, partial exemption, Capital Goods Scheme and property transactions. Carol joined Abbey Tax in 2017 where she provides helpline advice and supports the wider team on consulting and claims work as required.
